Who is Mark Whitehouse? I am an individual, but then again, aren't we all. My current profession is split among a passion for philosophy and a passion for programming. I am an incoming graduate student studying philosophy at Carnegie Mellon University. Philosophy has helped to expand my mind in ways I scarcely knew were possible. It has also acted as my balance to programming. My experience with programming is rather diverse and has proven to be a valuable resource to exploit. The accumulated sum of knowledge I have acquired has allowed me to dabble in this and that, but hone in on specific subjects when interested. This has allowed me to be a person who is not willing to take no for an answer. If I believe a problem has a feasible solution, then I will only abandon the problem after all reasonable options have been explored. I am also a person who has patience enough to allow circumstances to mature and evolve before acting.

As I suggested, my knowledge of programming is diverse. I have written code from PIC Assembly, to C++, to SQL. However, none of those languages cover where my real passion lies. I am, for better or worse, addicted to PHP as a tool for developing web applications. In particular, I specialize in the integration between PHP and MySQL. Fortunately, I am not limited simply to that. I wrote the gallery software used on this site, developed client-server applications between PHP and Flash, built a sophisticated template system and many other things. I have recently been turned on to AJAX and find myself working through those trenches.

I also enjoy partaking in design work every so often. The current site design is the result of satisfying a craving to be artistic. Producing little experimental projects in flash also amuses me.
